Pharmaceutical companies in China have steroids and other drugs or therapies that are readily available for sell and purchase. In one specific case, a doctor was caught on camera (without his knowing), as he offered a stem-cell therapy treatment in exchange for $24,000. According to the doctor the treatment strengthens lung function, he also recommended human growth hormones but since those are on the doping list – so they have to be careful. This was a common practice in China prior to the 2008 Olympic games and the drugs were just readily available, for a price. A doctor, a professional, willing to risk his career for quick cash by helping and advising athletes and coaches ways to dope. This particular doctor, was helping who he thought was an American swim coach. By sharing this information with another countries coach, what information is he giving to his own country and their athletes? My guess would be, that whatever it is, it is much stronger than what he is sharing with the US. Could China have found a new way of doping, one that is more effective and maybe even undetectable? Only time will tell.
